Bullet Points of the Book:

  1. Prevailing thinking in the world is that Japan had committed war crimes, as adjudged by the Tokyo Trials, including Nanking Massacre.  But, analyzing the past century’s events not from Allied or Japanese standpoint, but from third-party perspective the author began to think opinions previously embraced were wrong.
  2. For example, Japan did not invade Asian countries but gave them independence from Western colonial rule which had enslaved these nations for nearly half of millennium since the Western colonization of the Asia, Americas, Africa, and Middle East, India began in the 15th
  3. To the British Empire, Japan was absolutely an invader. The so-called Spice Islands of Indonesia were instantaneously occupied by Japan in early stages of Pacific War. So to the Dutch, Japan was an invader. Japan helped Asian countries achieve independence.  The British instantaneously lost their empire, which has lasted several hundred years, and the reality was not acceptable.   The possibility that a colored race would deprive the British of their land and establish independent states on their former colonial territory was unacceptable.
  4. The Tokyo Trials were truly a theater of vindictive revenge; Japan not only invaded the territory of the British Empire, but also played a vital role in helping achieve independence for the people of Asia who suffered under Western colonial rule. The Japanese officers and soldiers with a sense of mission like that of Western missionaries, led their fellow Asians to their independence.  Was it evil for Japan to have invaded the Asian colonies of the Western Nations?  If invasion was evil, how should Western powers’ invasion of Asia, Africa, Australia, North and South America be regarded?
  5. Japan’s victory in the Russo-Japanese War showed non-white people of the world that non-white people can defeat the whites. Singapore fell to Japan in February 15, 1942, very quickly after the start of the war on December 7th, 1941. This marked the eventual end of British colonial rule, and changed the historical progression of the Western Civilization. British Empire lived by exploiting its colonies; this is very different from the way Japan colonized; Japanese government invested a huge amount of money in Kore and Taiwan to develop their society, economy and people.
  6. Both Perry and MacArthur wanted to prove supremacy of Western Civilization. (elaborate 8,9)
  7. At the Tokyo Trials the Spirit of Fair Play was degrade; The truth about Tokyo Trials is at Western Civilization had acted in a most uncivilized way. No Western professor will acknowledge the injustice of Tokyo Trials but victors acts must be judged.
  8. Military prostitution (‘camp followers’ in colloquial terms)was something that existed since pre-Roman era, which became more formalized in the Napoleonic Wars 200 plus years ago and made into more orderly form by the Japanese military; In order not to infringe the rights of local women, to prevent rapes of civilian women, comfort stations were established.  When American Occupations soldiers landed in post-war Japan, MacArthur ordered 10,000 prostitutes to prevent rapes of Japanese women and girls.  (elaborate 13)
  9. Slavery has never existed in Japan, nor is there any tradition of turning women into sex slaves. Japanese soldiers have never stopped to commit massacre to rape women, unlike their counterparts from other seen in the histories of other countries. In other words, the Japanese have never resorted to tactics such as murder, robbery, rape and so on normally seen in the West or other parts of Asia. Japan does not have a culture that sets out to abduct women and make them into sex slaves.  The massacre of men and women, as well as gang rapes were traditional in the Christian world.  The best source of original insight into the topic of violence is probably the Old Testament.
  10. What did South Korean soldiers do in Vietnam? They cut loose and, like Russian soldiers advancing on Berlin in 1944; they raped left, right and center. There were nearly 3 million Japanese Army soldiers in battlefield of Asia and Pacific, they committed no rapes. Korean Army left behind 30,000 mixed Korean/Vietnamese when they left.
  11. One of the very earliest studies of comfort women is a report published in August 1944 by the United States Office of War Information Psychological Warfare Team; According to the report the comfort women is described as “nothing more than a prostitute”;  The women were “camp followers” of the Japanese Army all over Asia and Pacific. The same US Report says that these prostitutes enjoyed picnics, sports, and dinner entertainment with Japanese officers and soldiers in their ‘free time’, and these women were” allowed to go back to their homes in Korean whenever they wanted”.  The term “Sex Slaves” is not the right term to describe comfort women, because they were very well compensated for their services.  While the Japanese soldier’s salary was about 10 Yen per month, the comfort women, on average, were getting paid about 30 times more, about 300 Yen, per month.   A Korean former comfort women named Mun Oku-ju filed a case at the Tokyo District Court in the 1990s trying to withdraw savings at a Japanese bank she had accumulated during the WW II working as a comfort woman.  During the investigation her bank savings passbook was located; she had saved a huge sum of money, Yen 26,000 during the war (i.e. equivalent of 216 years’ worth of soldier’s compensation) enough to buy five houses in Tokyo just after the war.  The Koreans claim that 200,000 Korean women were abducted by the Japanese military and coerced to work as sex slaves.  That sounds dubious.  The entire comfort women number was only about 20,000 of which 40% were Japanese prostitutes according Prof. Ikuhiko Hata of Chiba University.
  12. The Nanking Massacre was a propaganda strategy launched in China about 1937-38 period, using an Australian journalist Harold J. Timperley, a Manchester Guardian correspondent based in Shanghai who wrote a book “What War Means” claiming 300,000 civilians were massacred in Nanking. No one can ascertain where Timperley came up with this number. Working with Lewis Smythe, an American missionary, contrived a propaganda story aimed to influence the US and English speaking public opinion.  A book by Professor Shudo Higashinakano points out in his book Top-Secret Chinese Nationalist Document Reveal the Truth About the Nanking Incident. The International Propaganda Division of Chinese Nationalist military organized 300 press conferences for China resident foreign correspondents of newspapers press conferences in the 11 month period from December 1, 1937 to October 4, 1938 and not even once the word “massacre” was mentioned. China has a 4,000 year-old history of fabricating historical facts.  The record of the management committee of Nanking International Safety Zone (A safety zone about the size of Central Park in NY within the walled city of Nanking, where the massacre of 300,000 civilians supposedly occurred in the 6 weeks following the Japanese military entrance into Nanking in December 13, 1937) Management Committee (comprised of foreigners from US, UK, Europe indicate the following: “Dec.13th Murders-0 incidents, Dec. 14th Murders-1 incident, Dec. 15th Murders-4 incidents” . These are the statistics prepared by the Committee members who were present at the Nanking International Safety Zone at the time of massacre presented to the Japanese Embassy.  Furthermore, there were no first-hand witnessed murders, just hearsay.
  13. Henry Stokes writes about the difficulty of grasping the true reality of a major catastrophic chaotic event-in spite of being physically at site-by describing his personal journalistic experience of covering “Kwangju (Gwangju) UprisingIncident” in South Korea l980, a student led Democratic movement crashed with the military and police. He writes “It was still not clear what happened in Kwangju in May of 1980, even after 10 years had passed…We compiled the reports of ten Western journalists, myself included, who were at site when Kwangju Incident took place.  From this experience, I learned that it is difficult to grasp what is going on even one block away”, and questions the veracity of testimonies made by who testified in Tokyo Trials in 1948, 10 years after the alleged incident, that “ murder of 30,000 soldiers, 12,000 men, women and children “ .  According to the report by the International Committee, the number of people who were in Nanking at the time was 200,000.  But after the Fall of Nanking, the population data from January, 1938 verifies the population did not decrease, but increased to 250,000 as many renegade Chinese soldiers came out of hiding pretending to be civilians.  He writes “from this it is clear that the Nanking Massacre did not take place.  As a historical fact, the Nanking Massacre never existed.  It was originally a propaganda tool by the Kuo Min Tang (Chinese Nationalists).
  14. The Second World War has broken out and Japan has shown that a relative new comer on the world stage in the 500 year drama, capable of delivering enormous blow to colonialism has emerged.   Japan is an unprecedented nation.   It is worthy to note that Japan proposed abolition to racial discrimination at 1919 Paris Conference to conclude World War I.   At this conference, the post-war order of the world, including the foundation of League of Nations, was discussed.   When a proposal for abolition of racial discrimination presented, Prime minister Hughes of Australia left the conference room, saying he would refuse signing such a proposal and go home.  The Chairman of the Conference Woodrow Wilson demanded that the Japanese withdraw this proposal.  Baron Nobuaki Makino, the Chief Japanese Foreign Minister, would not follow Chairman Wilson’s demands and requested a vote. Although Britain, America, Poland, Brazil and Rumania were opposed, 11 countries, out of attending 16 countries voted for the Japanese proposal. Thus, the proposal won by majority, and was approved.  Nonetheless, Chairman Wilson, the US President, announced that voting itself was invalid because it was not a “unanimous” vote. Despite the fact that the Japanese proposal for abolishing racial discrimination was approved by an overwhelming majority of 11 to 5 Chairman Wilson ignored the results of the vote.  Such behavior would be unacceptable in today's civilized world.   It is widely assumed that Japan invaded Asian countries during the WWII, but in reality Japan tried to liberate the nations invaded by Western colonizing nations.  It is correct to say that japan made all efforts to let Asian countries become independent.
  15. In Indonesia, colonial rule began when the Dutch dispatched their navy to Indonesia in 1596. Three hundred fifty years or so colonial rule by the Dutch ended in 1942 when the Japanese Army advanced to Indonesia.   At the center of Jakarta in Indonesia is the Merdeka Square; Merdeka means “Independence” in Indonesian.   In this one of the largest square of the world the Indonesians raised a 137 meter tall Memorial Tower, along with the statues of Mohammad Hatta and Sukarno, the two leaders of the Indonesian independence movement from the Dutch colonization. On the first level of the Tower is the original Declaration of Independence signed by Hatta and Sukarno, and dated 17-8-05; But, it was in 1945 when Indonesia gained independence. ”17-8” means August 17th, the date of the Independence.  But, what about “05”?  Many Indonesians are Muslin, but it is not to an Islamic calendar, nor Christian calendar.  It refers to the Japanese Imperial calendar year of 2605th year from the founding of the Japanese Imperial Dynasty by Emperor Jimmu.   Hatta and Sukarno used Japan’s Imperial Calendar to express their gratitude to Japan, for Japan was the mother of Indonesia’s independence.
  16. The Allies labeled Japan as a criminal nation and indoctrinated the world, especially Japan, that it was guilty of committing ‘war of aggression’ and the ‘Nanking Massacre’ through propaganda programs like War Guilt Information Program campaign and Tokyo Trials, which is regarded as unjust application of ‘victors’ justice’.  Japan should tell the world the facts: that Japan did not invade Asia, but liberated Asia from Western colonial rule. Chandra Bose, the Indian independence movement leader, declared “Japan was the light of hope in Asia”. The Japanese Army advanced into Asia and fought against Western Powers, which controlled and oppressed Asians.  Japan expelled the invaders from Asia and started the construction of Asia for Asians.
  17. Japan annexed Korea in 1910, five years after Japan’s victory in the Russo-Japanese War. Japan expended huge sums of money and enormous effort in order to modernize Korea, which contrast sharply from the colonial rule under the British and Western powers. The Japanese expenditures built the foundation of today’s Korean society, encompassing the establishment of and education system ranging from compulsory to university education, and of medical, police, , and military systems, governmental, industrial , postal, transportation, electric utility, infrastructures.  Unlike the British colonial rule, Japan spent its own tax money to invest in the building of Korea and its people. Japanese rule was different from Western colonial rule, which was based on racial supremacy; Korean people were treated as if they were Japanese. If we look at British colonial rule of India, the whites were superior to the Indians.  Not only in India, in all of Asia, were colored people regarded as inferior being compared to the white race.  Education for people in British colonies were forbidden and simply was not offered.  Japan, however, built the entire education infrastructures in Korea and Taiwan, including Imperial National Universities. In the vast British colonies, there was snot even one university built for colored people.
  18. This year (2013) commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Greater East Asia Conference held in Tokyo in 1943, where leaders of independence seeking colored nations gathered; these nations’ independence was attainable only when Japan fought against the Western colonial powers. People generally believe that Japan invaded Asia. Why on earth, then did these leaders of those Asian countries gather together in Japan, the country of invader in search of their independence from Western colonial powers? The spirit of independence, with help from Japan, became the strong unifying force amongst Asian nations.  This cannot be understood as we have the perception that japan invaded Asian countries.
  19. The Meiji Restoration in Japan in 1968 took place to protect Japan from colonial rule by Western imperialism. The War in the Pacific and Asia was an extension of Meiji Restoration.
